Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. She is also the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017, and also as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
